Azelaic acid in the treatment of ocular and adnexal malignant melanoma.

چکیده
Following reports of the successful management of cutaneous malignant melanoma with azelaic acid both locally and systemically a trial was undertaken to assess its value in the treatment of similar lesions involving the eye and its adnexa. Systemically administered azelaic acid failed to influence the melanomata in any of the 4 patients included in the study. A plea is made for the reporting even of such disappointing results in the present uncertain climate.

Effect of dicarboxylic acids (C6 and C9) on human choroidal melanoma in cell culture.
In cell culture, azelaic acid (C9) has been shown to have an antiproliferative and cytotoxic effect on human and murine malignant cutaneous melanocytes. Normal melanocytes are unaffected, as are normal choroidal melanocytes. Here, effects on cell kinetics and ultrastructure of cells of a human choroidal melanoma line have been studied. Cells were exposed to single doses of disodium salts of aze...

متن کاملComparison of the Effect of Azelaic Acid 20% And Clindamycin 1% In the Treatment of Mild And Moderate Acne
Introduction: Topical antimicrobials, such as clindamycin, are effective in the treatment of acne and azelaic acid, due to the lack of bacterial resistance, could be a useful alternative in topical treatment of acne. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of topical azelaic acid 20% with clindamycin 1% lotion for the treatment of acne. Method: This randomized clinical trial study was p...
متن کاملNon Aqueous Titration for the Determination of Azelaic Acid: Introduction and Method Validation
Alpha-hydroxylic acids are widely used in the treatment and control of skin disorders. Azelaic acid is a naturally occuring Alpha-hydroxy acid that can be formed endogenously from long-chain dicardoxylic acids, metabolism of oleic acid or omega oxidation of mono carboxylic acids. It shows bacteriostatic and bactericidal activities against aerobic and anaerobic micro-organisms present on acne-be...
